First Day(s) of School

Here is the beginning to the end of my education at my community college (or at least for now!!) For anyone wondering, i split the days into two because I have the different classes on my Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Enjoy!!

DAY ONE:

Today was like all other first days of school really. We met the teachers and went over the syllabus. I started out my first day by seeing a friend I haven't gotten to see in some time standing outside my first class. She wasn't in my class, but it was really awesome to see a familiar face and catch up. My first class (US Gov) seems like it will be alright this semester and the teacher is a friendly, passionate person, which definitely helps when in a class that doesn't have the most intriguing topic (at least in my book). The class only really consists of a few tests and essays, without any busy work, which is super nice in my book. I like less busy work, because then I get a chance to really concentrate on the larger tasks, like the projects/essays.

Once my class was over I went back to my car (which was a few blocks away) and I developed two really painful blisters on the back of my ankles. I am such a wimp when it comes to these things, but seriously theses are the things that annoy the crap out of me... but not as much as chipping nail polish (thankfully that did not happen today haha). Anyway, I drove to the mall and bought myself some really cute Vanz. It's always been kind of a thing for me to get new Vanz for back to school and I love it!!!

After my short shopping adventure I went back to school for my last class. I get an hour and twenty minute break, so I expect in the future I will be lunching, studying, and possibly hanging out with friends. My last class for my Monday/Wednesday schedule is Intro to Research in Psychology, and let me tell you, I'm rather intimidated. My teacher is extremely kind, but I could tell from the moment that she started reading through the syllabus that she had high expectations for this class. I'm a little nervous for the research and essays, but that is okay and it just makes me grateful for my decision to not take on a heavier load than what I already have. My favorite part of my class so far is that it is in the same classroom as the one my most favorite psych class at DVC was held in (It was a personality psych class I took last fall and is really the class that inspired me to continue my Psychology major and possibly become a college professor. Thanks Dr Hernes!!) And yes, if you are wondering, you bet I got my favorite seat!! HAHA

DAY TWO:

Lemme tell you, today was a lot more interesting than yesterday. I had two english classes (yes, I know I am crazy for taking two, especially back to back), a ballet class, and an orchestra rehearsal.
My first english class is Critical Thinking and oh my goodness, I'm excited for this class! My teacher is so nice and even though she assigned a huge assignment due Thursday (Read 84 pages from the text and then answer assigned questions). I don't mind the work as long as I have enough time to rest really haha! My second class (Short Story Writing) was filled with some... interesting people. I signed up for the class mainly because I like the teacher and using my imagination and writing is a favorite of mine. After these two classes, I had a break until my evening classes. My first evening class was ballet. I love to dance so much and I have a fabulous teacher that makes the class even more fun!

The real highlight of my day though was returning to orchestra. I haven't played in an orchestra in nearly two years and it was so nice to play again. I initially left because I had a lot on my plate school and work wise, I wasn't enjoying the music selections, and I was under an ample amount of stress. I am very glad I took my break, because it helped me get back on my feet and it has made me appreciate playing in an orchestra so much more. Tonight, I loved that so many people remembered me after so long and that I didn't lose as much as I thought I did. I played two pieces which were not familiar to me and one of which I've heard countless times. I sat third chair in the first violins, which kind of took me by surprise, since I haven't played in so long. I am not complaining however (aside from the body aches, which yes, is a rather common occurrence for orchestral musicians... its all the sitting with perfect posture for hours on end) because today was great and it really makes my face glow with relief and joy as I take another step forward into my last semester.
